There was some disappointing news out of Thai Airways recently, at least for those that travel to Pattaya. Thai Air is discontinuing the non-stop flight from L.A. to Bangkok. They will be phasing it out over the next few months finally switching to a one stop flight connecting in Incheon, Korea starting May 1, 2012.
From February 1 through April 30th 2012 Thai will start cutting back on the flights TG794 and TG795 to just five days per week. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Starting May first the connecting flight will be cut down to just four days a week. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
They didn’t provide much information as to why they are stopping this service. Though I can’t say that I was surprised. They stopped the non-stop from New York to Bangkok a few years ago, and even at that time they were talking about making this same change to the LAX to BKK non-stop. It will surely be missed as it was the only direct flight from the U.S.
Not only will this add a few more hours of travel to an already long travel day, but the move to only 4 days per week is limiting. Add to that there is no Premium Economy service on this new flight and there will be many people looking at different options for getting to Pattaya. EVA air is one to look at, flying fairly new Boeing 777 that connect in Taipei. They also have the Elite or Evergreen premium economy class.
